Well-being of Migrants in the Arctic and Asia, online seminar 13 October

As part of our long term partnership with Japanese Arctic anthropologists, we are part of the ARCSII – funded Research Exchange Programme, led by Hiroki Takakura of CNEAS, Tohoku University. In the upcoming Finnish-Japanese seminar in Kobe “Well-being of Migrants in the Arctic and Asia”, our team member Ria Adams is going to talk about what she calls “lifestyle migration” in the Arctic. We thank our recent visitor in this programme, Yuka Oishi, for hosting this seminar in Kobe. For us in Europe this will be very early, but if someone wants to watch online before or during their breakfast, they can do so online , with the zoom Meeting ID: 867 5176 1846, Passcode: 713350.

Here is the info about the event: This seminar focuses on lifestyle migration in the Arctic and Asia. Lifestyle migration is the temporary or permanent migration of relatively affluent individuals to other countries or places, not only for economic or political reasons but also for quality of life and self-actualization. The presenters will discuss how migrants achieve well-being in pre- and post-migration time and multilayered spaces, including individual, place, region, nation, and ecological environment. Through this seminar, we aim to explore various new research topics and collaborative research possibilities related to migration and society in the Arctic.

Date and time: 13. October 2023. 14:00-17:00 (Japanese time, 8 a.m. Finnish time)
