For those who are interested in exploring Arctic anthropological scholarship in Japan, and also make contact with the Japanese anthropologists in general, the Center for Northeast Asian Studies (Tohoku University in Sendai) visiting fellows programme is a great opportunity. I have been there several times, once for half a year, and it is super-rewarding both scholarly and personally to get involved in the work of this institute, with very nice colleagues, get to know the Japanese research community, and of course the country. For those who do not speak Japanese: there are also a number of very nice international staff at Tohoku University, also anthropologists, working in the Arctic and elsewhere. They have a call for applications again. Just to make it clear: you do not have to work on the Asian Arctic for applying there. Rest of the Arctic is also ok, and so is Inner Asia.

With the CNEAS director Takakura, we also celebrated just recently the publication of our second joint volume, 15 years after the first one. Both are a very nice result of fellowships like that. More details in the next post.
