Gifts from the Sentient Forest Project online seminar/webinar recordings in human-plant studies.

Professor John Charles Ryan and post-doctoral researcher Dr. Francis Joy are both members of the Arctic Anthropology research team based at the Arctic Centre, Rovaniemi. During 2024 and 2026 both have been engaged in a research project titled Gifts from the Sentient Forest, which is a two-year project funded by Kone Foundation, exploring forest sentience which is a concept centered around the capacities trees and plants to communicate, hold memory, learn, and feel and therefore, express themselves in different ways. The research work is a response to decimation of northern Finland’s arboreal forests. Among the different methods and approaches used for collecting data and co-producing knowledge six online seminars/webinars have been recorded which have centered on human-plant studies.
